Love of Mindfulness

Be the light you want to see in this world.

I have seen many times when people are stressed, myself included, that the first sauna round they tend to talk more and conversations are more fragmented. As we get into the later rounds, the talk is slowed and becomes more purposeful, if any words are spoken at all. Breathing and relaxing becomes more of the focus and the tensions seem to melt away.

My purpose in life is to help people see their smile. My profession for which I have spent 20 years enjoying as an orthodontist does that directly but I have also found that I have never seen anyone leave the sauna experience without a smile on their face. So why is that? Some would say that an orthodontist creates smiles but I would beg to differ and say that God creates the smile and we just help them see it; and sauna does the same thing.

When we remember to just breathe and get back to the simple things in life, the world becomes a better place. In Finland where there is almost one sauna for every 2 people; that might be a reason why they are considered to be the happiest country in the world. If we can all remember to breathe and not get worked up over the small things, the big things can be addressed both physically and mentally.

Self care is the best health care. Since we know that stress is major contributor to ill health, getting ourselves to a more relaxed state of mind is the first next step. Ultimately, happy people are healthier so it is important to find a way to smile everyday. I hope that more and more people will take up the practice of sauna to help them on that journey.
